Current Senate Scoreboard
Bottom Line

Senator Sherrod Brown is currently the only Democrat to hold statewide office in Ohio.

As he seeks re-election in a state that has shifted to the right politically, he will have to navigate some challenges posed by the leftward lurch of the Democratic party. For example, Brown came under fire from progressive activists following his vote to end the government “shutdown.”

Brown had expected a rematch of his 2012 campaign against Josh Mandel. But due to his wife’s health, Mandel dropped out of the race.

Congressman Jim Renacci entered the race at the urging of White House and has been endorsed by the state’s entire Congressional delegation. He will face businessman Mike Gibbons in the May 8 primary.
