Some political pundits have been surprised by how little impact the debates have had on the race for the Democratic presidential nomination. A key reason is that most voters simply aren’t engaged in the process or interested in the debates.
On Monday night, we asked 1,084 adults whether the next Democratic presidential debate would be held this week, next week, or in a month. Just 21% knew it was scheduled for this week. Among Democrats, only 28% got it right.
And, it’s worth pointing out that the vast majority of those watching the debates have a rooting interest in the outcome. They already know the candidate they support and are waiting for others to change their mind.
By the way, when we asked about the debate timing, a whopping 60% of all adults wouldn’t even venture a guess.
